These people would not be on welfare - but unless their employer gets them health insurance, they are going to be screwed if they or their family gets sick. Forget finding a reasonably-priced plan. And yes, welfare should be for the poorest of the poor - and it should be tied to plans to get people working again. People that CAN afford insurance should be forced to buy it and those that claim they can't have to prove it.ERPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15973334581468131595noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32239569.post-67520190957124655662008-11-01T19:23:00.000-05:002008-11-01T19:23:00.000-05:00I just can't feel sorry for people who are "strugg...I just can't feel sorry for people who are "struggling" on $40,000/year, which is the low end of a salary of a new grad RN (I started at about $45,000 in 2003). Yawn.

If you can't afford your lifestyle, change your lifestyle. You think you have some sort of moral duty to give money away to people who are walking, talking, and chewing gum at the same time, I don't.

Welfare historically was intended for the very needy who could not support themselves usually due to death (of a husband) or serious disability such as mental retardation. Everyone else can work and stop having so many kids. Sorry.

Democrats even want programs like SCHIP which is welfare healthcare for the middle and upper classes (up to 80K/year income limit in some places). Entitlements and "tax reductions" for people who already don't pay taxes (ie handouts) need to stop and we need to be America again where you were expected to work and support your family not vote yourself a paycheck.

I'm sorry you can't bring yourself to accept that his tax schemes are just redistribution of wealth.Nurse Khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06408755992926959084noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32239569.post-80157617826597604172008-11-01T14:19:00.000-05:002008-11-01T14:19:00.000-05:00Nurse K, I have no problem paying some more in tax...Nurse K, I have no problem paying some more in tax first of all - if it helps bolster home values and restore the bank's extension of credit (hopefully more responsibly than before), as well as to get us closer to universal health care. Second, I don't trust a single thing writtin in the WSJ opinion or editorial pages - they are unabashedly skewed to the right. You could easily find skewed articles in other publications to the left which would claim the opposite and show that McCain will raise your taxes. How it will play out will have to be seen. Finally, if you are worried about a "handout" then don't bother voting for McCain either since he said he wants to the government to buy troubled mortgages as well! In fact, the "buyout" package has gone through so the "handouts" to people who got in over their heads in their mortgages will continue regardless of who is elected. But the original problem I had with the post was the assumption that this person in the video was on welfare and just waiting for us to give her our money. Who knows, maybe she makes 40K per year and has trouble raising two kids on that income? In some parts of the country, that is not alot of money but certainly would not place them on the dole. It seems that many people would just abolish welfare all together when I think it needs revison to a more incentive-based programme. I believe Obama favours that over just blindly giving money to able-bodied people who sit around and do shit all day.ERPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15973334581468131595noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32239569.post-69043442399045308612008-11-01T12:25:00.000-05:002008-11-01T12:25:00.000-05:00ERP, this might convince you that she's looking fo...ERP, this might convince you that she's looking for a handout ...

As we all know, his "tax cuts" also include checks being written (ie "handouts") to people with no tax liability and a monumental increase in taxes on those who already have the highest tax liability to pay for these handouts.

It's disgusting IMHO.
