Quote of the Century
"The real issue is this, who would you rather have in charge of the defense of the United States of America, a group of people who never served a day overseas in their life, or a guy who served his country honorably and has three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star on the battlefields of Vietnam?"- Dr. Howard Dean (Democrat) 2004
Physician and current chairman of the Democratic National Committee

John McCain has been awarded the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Star Medals, a Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Hillary Clinton was awarded the German Media Prize, the United Arab Emirates Health Foundation Prize, and she was once named Arkansas Woman of the Year.

Barack Obama has won two Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word Album.

I'm not grasping... I should pick a man who voluntarily firebombed innocent villagers and subsequently acquired some trinkets from corrupt politicians?
I vote neither.
So I take you voted for Kerry in 2004? No?- I thought so - like a typical conservative you only notice facts when they are convenient for you
I'm not saying anyone should follow the endorsements of Dr. Howard Dean or even believe a single word out of his hypocritical mouth. Nor am I saying that our president should have military experience. Nope, Dr. Dean suggested that, not me. Of course President Bush served his country honorably during the Vietnam War as well, but I suppose you forgot about that.
I'm just enjoying his quote. Pity you didn't enjoy it so much.
*happy sigh*
Me loves me some irony.
The quotes are true enough...but the laugh-out-loud humor in this post is the picture of Hillary Clinton >).
People like "rory" and "max" want McCain's service to go down the memory hole. They (and all their fellow travelers) are far more interested in focusing on an issue whose importance dwarfs mere concerns of national security: McCain's age.
Honestly his age bothers me a bit. But not enough to vote for either of those other two clowns.
Bush served admirably? WTF? He weaseled out and served in the totally bogus Texas Air National Gurad. BFD. At least McCain did serve admirably. However, he said himself "I don't know much about economics". Great. Just what we need - a novice on economics at a time of impending recession.
That's some industrial-grade irony.
Does Dean know that Adolf Hitler won the Iron Cross 1st & 2nd class and the Wound Badge.
"He weaseled out and served in the totally bogus Texas Air National Gurad. BFD."
Perhaps you're too young to remember hiding under the formica desks to protect yourself from nukyular fallout.
An interceptor squadron in CONUS was taken a bit more seriously back in the days of the Evil Empire.
I would love to suggest that we stop killing people for a little while.
I would love to suggest that we stop killing people for a little while.
Um, that's a lovely thought, if not more than a little naive. A pesky little thing call 9-11 proved these fanatics would love to turn us into dust. Would you recommend sticking daffodils in their RPGs while hoping they "feel the love"? Having lived in Iran and Saudi Arabia, I can answer that. They'd laugh hysterically at our gullibility while shooting us between the eyes.
My personal philosophy is to try not to kill anyone, unless required.
So far it's working out.
An ER blog with a conservative spin?? Seems quite backwards to me, but I love it. One of my complaints about working in the ER is the incredible and unexplainable level of liberalism. Keep it up, Scalpel!

George Bush's milatary record is a notch above, that of the great liberal icon, Bill Clinton.
I am concerned with Mccain's age also, but not enough to vote for a bozo, who can't tell the truth, even when it's documented on video.Maybe it was really Obama, who came under sniper fire, and Hillary who listened to a lunatic preacher for twenty years, and had no idea what was being shouted from the pulpit.
When John McCain was in the military, he followed orders.
That is what soldiers do. The military is not a democracy.
By the way, I didn't vote for Kerry either. I wonder if he has any qualms, about helping spend the inheritance of the dead Republican, Mr. Heinz.
Honestly, who cares if you served in the military? Since when is the majority of the work a president has to do related to that? And just because you were brilliant in the military, is not a guarantee for presidential greatness. Look at Grant for example.
FDR was not military as far as I know and is generally regarded very highly - including during the biggest war our country has every participated in.
Also, McCain was in trouble with the MPs' while in the military for beating some people up while intoxicated. Hmmmm......
Howard Dean apparently does. Or did.
During 2007, Clinton was awarded an honorary doctorate in medicine by the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, for being "a strong advocate for increased investment in medical research" and for "raising awareness of the increased health problems linked to obesity, poor quality food and physical inactivity."
So that will be "Doctor Clinton" from now on. Also, she looks to be an exemplar of poor quality food and physical inactivity, but it could just be the light.
Ahh Scalpel just sitting here relfecting on still another one of your thought provoking posts and finding myself suddenly glad that being a citizen of your neighbour to the north (not Oklahoma) I can't vote in your next general election.
Our country needs change. Not more war.
I THINKZ ILL VOTE 4 MCCAIN CAUZE HE WENT TO WAR!
Thanks for sharing the great ideas. such a very nice and informative post....
