Brain-Eating Amoeba
Scary.
Since Murrieta Fire Capt. Matt Moore fell ill in November, he has been in and out of four hospitals, all the while growing sicker from a mysterious illness that doctors were at a loss to identify. Now he is on life-support in a critical-care unit in San Diego.
Late last month, his family and friends finally got some answers. But the news was not good. Moore, 43, who is married and has three teenage children, is suffering from a rare and usually fatal parasitic meningoencephalitis caused by a brain-eating amoeba found in soil.

Best wishes to Capt. Moore and his family.

Two things (one of which will probably send me to hell):
1) This does not parse
It stands to reason, Schuster said, that firefighters might have a higher chance of exposure being around so many airborne particles on the job. "But it's just a wild guess," he said.
If it stands to reason, it's not a wild guess.
2) Too bad he didn't use the brain scanner that's been running rampant among the medblogs lately!
(Yeah, that's the one sending me to hell)
This is so sad and frightening that it can happen.
Normally, I don't have any human feelings other than "It's hot outside" or "I'm hungry" but I got a little sting in my eyes when I read this part: "They recorded the fire tone codes that are played when firefighters are called out to an emergency. At the sound, Moore's heartbeat quickened."
A dude in his condition who is still trying his best to get out there and help folks is probably a pretty good guy.
I love that Nergleria bug! I think it is so freaky that you can get it from jumping a pond and getting it up your nose. And of course there is no cure. Sounds like a good horror movie theme.
To all who may not know!! he passed away the other day!! may he be at peace with the Lord now, and no more suffering!!!
Good Job! :)
