Texas Style
Among my most cherished fringe benefits of this job is the opportunity to get to know some of the people I admire most: the policemen, firefighters, and paramedics who are fellow links in the safety net of our society. I consider these men and women to be the ultimate VIPs and I would do anything for them, expecting nothing in return. So I was totally surprised and deeply touched when after I treated an officer "on the side," he brought me a speedloader and some hollowpoints for my snubby.
I love Texas.

Nice guns. As soon as I'm of legal age I'll be carrying this baby around...

That's awesome that he did that for you...good Texans are somethin' else.
How thoughtful, and practical, too. Nurses usually just get a box of candy:-)

I do love the .45, or the new Taurus Judge. I have to be responsible for my safety and those of my loved ones.

Enrico, I haven't deleted any comments lately, but I notice that your comment above was deleted. If anyone is having problems not seeing their comments, please let me know.
I did notice that some comments weren't going to my e-mail address this week, so I suspect there is a problem with Blogger.
That was nice of him. But if I ever get a tiny handgun, I'd go with a Beretta Px4 Storm.
Are you afraid of being attacked? I hope not.
I'm not afraid, but I'm prepared.
If I'm going to be attacked, I'd rather have a gun available than not.
Awwww...it's this kind of thing that warms a girl's heart Scalpel. ;)
Seriously, it was very thoughtful of him.
I am curious though...do you carry a gun because you work in a high crime area or is it something you would do anyway?
I shot a rifle once and the kickback really hurt my shoulder. Last time I did it too. However, we have a gun club nearby and I always thought it would be meat to really learn how to shoot and then go to the target range or whatever it is called. I do have good hand/eye coordination and wonder how I would do with something like that. :)
I carry a gun because I can. Thanks for the post idea, Seaspray. I can't sleep anyway.

I thought you were giving up the vampire thing.
Is the dark side really that hard to resist?
Not just Texas, it is a southern thing. My boyfriend got us matching M25-M1a as an early christmas present. Also gave me a XD .45 ACP as our anniversary gift. Gotta love southern guys. And FYI a website that I judt absolutely drool over is www.tacticalgearcommand.com, not as hard as it looks o get into and the paoff is awesome. I am an ER nurse and that is what I put when I asked to join and I was accepted. Cool medical equipment and awesome guns.

I still work some nights, I just don't work exclusively nights anymore. I still love my night crew.
But my sleep is still messed up when I have to flip-flop. Last night I slept from 10-1 and then 5-9 am. The difference that makes it worthwhile is that it doesn't stay messed up for as many days as it used to.
What ammo was it? For .38Spl or .357Magnum, it's hard to go wrong with Speer Gold Dot. Actually, it's hard to go wrong with those in any caliber, but for .45ACP and 9mm, I usually carry Remington Golden Saber. I've had Gold Dot in all of the above, and it generally comes down to availability; loading all my mags for the .45 takes 59 rounds, and 50 for the 9mm, whereas my 5-shot .357 with a speedloader and two speed strips, or my 6-shot 38 and two speedloaders can be filled with a single box.
For those who are wondering, no, I generally don't carry that much ammo around; I carry at least one reload for whatever I'm carrying, (all three for the .357 most days, since the speed strips are really compact, though sometimes only one) and the rest will be stashed wherever it's convenient. Like the gun, it's better to have spare ammo and not need it than to need it and not have it. Or, as it has been put before, unless you're drowning, there's no such thing as too much ammo.
