Mystery Rash of Doom
Yes, it looks like your child might have a rash. Sorry you had to wait so long. I may not be an expert at Dermatology, but one thing I know about rashes is this:
If I have to get up real close and squint to see it, then it probably isn't an emergency.

I remember a patient whose concern was "I had a rash 3 days ago. Can you tell me what it was?
It's amazing what parents will drag their children into the ER for! My favorite stupid parent trick is not medicating their child's fever "because I wanted you to see how high it is". Do they think we won't believe them?

This reminds me of when people see the price of gas has gone down a couple of cents, and they drive their cars around extra so they can fill up on the "cheap stuff"!

I could never get mad at worried moms when I floated to the ER. Granted, they were over reacting, but at least they weren't ignoring their kids.

Yeah, I waited to have my eczema looked at until it was so disgusting that I had strangers asking what was wrong with me. I wanted the dermatologist to have no doubt that there was a problem. Steroid cream is the best stuff on Earth.
Your last statement should definitely be added to the House of God rules, heh!
Funny you should post about rashes - been watching a site that provides images and info about rashes and skin conditions on all age groups (including children) - check out http://www.visualdxhealth.com
Re: treatment of minor crap
I work in an occupational health clinic. I remember having to tell an on-call doc over the phone at 3:00am that we had a US postal service "work related injury" that he had to come assess and treat. The patient statement (word for word) was "I got a paper cut from an envelope". The doc was not joyful.
